A Disney Birthday for Eddie

We ran 5 miles on Thursday night. It was dark by the time we returned and the steep hill at the end made the run even more challenging. I enjoyed seeing the ocean at night. In the morning, Eddie was suprised with his birthday destination - a well kept secret for the past two months. The superbowl came early, because we were going to Disneyland and also joining us was my family. Disney and California Adeventures back to back - needless to say Eddie was suprised and we now have some great memories.

Five and counting!

Melissa and I continue to get back into the swing of things with a five miler yesterday. It was actually cold (by San Diego standards) and so we had to dress accordingly. After a mile or so it felt fine and we completed the five miles with no issues. Beginning training again for another half marathon has gotten us back into a routine we both enjoy. I especially enjoy the reward of a Mondo Burrito at Ki's after a job well done. Next week-Six Miles!

Feeling Strong at 4!

Another 60 degree day in January in San Diego. It's tough, but someones got to live here. We ran 4 mi, but could have went for 5 today. Was it the diet coke and english muffin combo? Perhaps. We ran into our friends from our running group who greeted us with lot of waves and smiles. It was great to share with one of the coaches that we had already completed our first half. A great breakfast at Ki's, Wahoo's Fish Taco, Best Buy, Target, and finally home.

Happy New Year - 3 miles!

We kicked off the new year with a healthy 3 mile run! Despite the short distance, it was suprisingly challenging after returning from a month off. Our next half will take place along the rolling pastures, farm animals, and vineyards of Santa Barbara. Unlike our previous night time run, this one will be in the morning followed by a music and wine festival with unlimited wine tastings in a Danish town, Solvang. We have a rigorous but doable training schedule, adding a mile each week ending in 7 miles by month end. In February, we'll begin running with our group again. Eddie's goal is to beat his previous time. My goal is to complete this half marathon with less pain and a quicker recovery. While we considered a local race, we love the excitement of a destination race, a getaway with a goal in mind. Santa Barbara here we come!
